How to Use Galey

Galey Quick Guide

Capture and analyze app network traffic in three steps. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each app you want to study.

Create a Baseline

Baseline traffic is your device’s normal activity with no apps in use. It helps Galey spot what’s unique to each app later.

  1. Close all open apps and restart your device.
  2. Open WireGuard and enable the “galey-baseline” tunnel.
  3. Let the device sit for 5–10 minutes without using it.
  4. Turn off the tunnel.

Create an App Traffic Session

Record traffic while using the app you want to analyze.

  1. Close all open apps for a clean start.
  2. Open WireGuard and enable the “galey-app” tunnel.
  3. Launch the target app and use it normally for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Turn off the tunnel.

Keep each session focused on one app and a small set of actions for clearer results.

Analyze the App Session

  1. From the Analytics menu, go to App Sessions
  2. Select the session you recorded.
  3. Fill in App and Notes fields then Update to save.
  4. Tap the magnifying glass icon to start analysis.
  5. When it’s done, tap the eye icon to view the results.

What to write in App and Notes fields

Briefly describe the session: the app name e.g. my browser and key context—e.g., app type, whether it was opened, installed, or restarted.

Examples:

  • Opened 'App Name' without visiting any websites.
  • Installed 'App Name', opened it, watched the feed for ~5 minutes.
  • Launched 'App Name', signed in, sent one message.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each app you want to analyze. Keep sessions focused for the clearest results.
